Full Thrust: Ship Sizes

I have never been able to find a good list of sizes for Full Thrust ships by Ground Zero Games. I absolutely love their ships and own the following fleets:

The Scandinavian Federation (what I use for Terran Dominion):

I will start from the bottom left and make my way up.

Ariander: 2.5cm
Hrafn: 3.2cm
Tjeld: 3.2cm
Mjolnir: 3.8cm
Trondheim: 5.3cm
Saint Olaf: 5.4cm (bigger than the Trondheim but with a smaller front gun so it's only slightly longer)
Hardrada: 6.4cm
Peder Skram: 8.2cm
SleipnirL 8.7cm
Ericsson: 8.7cm
Valhalla: 11.7cm

Federated Stats Europa (what I use for the Xenarch):

I will start from the bottom left and make my way up.

Cygne (not pictured): 1.4cm
Daphne: 2.4cm
Lemnos: 3.1cm
Thetis: 3.6cm
Ardennes: 4.8cm
Colbert: 5.7cm
Tourville: 5.9cm
Duquesne: 7.4cm
Stromboli: 8.7cm
Da Silva: 7.6cm
Littorio: 10.3cm
Affondatore: 10.2cm
Charlemagne: 11.6cm

A Tale of 3 Fleets: 4

I am starting to base the Xenarch fleet at the beginning of this entry. Here is the technique I use...

Here, the Xenarch fleet is starting to get glued together. The two ships on the bag in the middle are the two regular cruisers drying. The rest have been drilled out and are ready to be based.

All ships but the gun style grand cruiser and the battleship are assembled and ready for basing here.

Here are the bases with many of the escorts drying.

Here is the entire finished and based Xenarch fleet drying. All that is left is the Terran Dominion fleet!

A Tale of 3 Fleets: 3

More pictures from the Dark Eldar and the rest of the Xenarch and Terran Dominion arrived from England.

Random Dark Eldar picture sitting on top of my psychopathology text book.

Both Mortalis cruisers. The top is a torp variant and the bottom is the gun variant.

Here I am starting to combine bits to make Subjugation escorts.

Here they are!

Lots of pinning to do.

Here are the ScanFed ships (Terran Dominion).

Xenarch ships laid out all nice like.

A Tale of 3 Fleets: 2

Update 2. Mostly, work on the Dark Eldar fleet. Once I started, I couldn't stop! I was not content until I at least matched the right pieces to the ships.
DE pieces. The ones on the top right will be the weapon batteries. The longer one will be lances and the blaster bit will be, who knows. I moved on after this to working on the cruisers instead of the escorts.

In order to cover the area where the handlebars would be on the jetbike, I trimmed the mounting part down. This way, I could move it back.

Here a cruiser is glued. This piece was cut down the middle, as you can see. It will be used to cover up the middle hole in the cruiser you can see in this pictures.

Here the piece is patched.

I decided, for a few cruisers, that I would cut down the mounting piece more to bring the front back further.

Here is the start of one of the Mortalis grand cruisers.

Here is another cruiser with the handlebar part patched.

Fast forward a bit, here are the finished cruisers including the two Mortalis!

On the the escorts. I have 10 to work with. I am going to keep the basic 2 gun piece as the weapon battery cruiser.

I trimmed some down to make the lance and the impaler versions.
Check out the links on the right side of the blog to see where I copied these ocncepts from.

A Tale of 3 Fleets: 1

Here are the non mega fleet ships laid out for you to see next to a IN Sword.
In the updates panel of the blog, we have been updating the progress of ordering 3 new fleets: Terran Dominion (a home-brew Starcraft fleet), The Xenarch (a home-brew 40k species), and Dark Eldar.

Terran Dominion
Part of the TD fleet has arrived from England (amazingly fast shipping) from Ground Zero Games. We ordered a "Mega Fleet" which doesn't exactly exist for the ScanFed fleet (the models are from the "Scandinavian Federation" fleet from GZG). Jon at GZG put together a ScanFed Mega Fleet and allowed us to tweak it a little. Awesome customer support. The Mega Fleet isn't here yet (probably tomorrow) but we got all the extras on top of it (a GC carrier, 2 CL carriers, and an artillery cruiser).

 The Xenarch
Same deal with the Xenarch. We are using GZG's "Federated Stats Europa" fleet. As with the ScanFed, I absolutely love these models. It was hard to find the measurements (I never did) but I used the grid that the pictures from the GZG website are on and made my best guess. So far, I am mostly correct. The Mega Fleet for the Xenarch have not arrived yet (probably tomorrow also) but I did get the extras (a GC carrier, a regular cruiser carrier, and 2 escorts).

Grand cruiser carrier. This is going to take a while... all pewter, tons of pinning.
Dark Eldar
The whole DE fleet arrived while I was on vacation (Maui!) and I arrived yesterday to it. It will have 6 cruisers of different sizes and 10 escorts, all from DE 40k stuff.

Heck yes. I just noticed that there is a cruiser pictured on the Hellion box on the left. Looks awesome.

This bag has the first 3 cruisers cut out and ready for converting.

Escorts in a bag.

Cruisers up close.

BFG Scenery Making 3

Here are some pictures from yesterdays scenery work.

One of our gamers decided to make a Megaroid (mega asteroid). This was about 10 minutes before he cut his finger badly.

Here are the glued in stands, drying.

Soldering iron used to put craters in the asteroids.

Here are some of the cratered asteroids with one on the right that hasn't been worked on.
A Space Marine Strike Cruiser wading through the first batch of finished asteroids.

Finally, the finished group. This is definitely enough for the new game board.

Some of the bases have multiple asteroids attached by paper clips.

A close up of some of them. Notice the one in the back with 4 asteroids on 1 base.

Here's the almost finished Megaroid with a normal asteroid next to it. The base for the Megaroid was made  using the drill press posted about earlier.

BFG Scenery Making 2

After BFG Scenery Making 1, we finished the asteroids besides rounding them a little.

Here are the asteroids sitting on top of their respective bases. There happens to be an Imperial Overlord flying through for size comparison. The finish asteroids to the right are from our current set of scenery and they are what we are modeling the news ones after besides some of the bases that will have multiple smaller rocks. The green stands in the middle are cut out of 1/8inch wire that is pretty flimsy but very hard to bend when they are cut this short. Cheap and simple stands for the asteroids.

I was bored in class the other day and was checking craigslist for a drill press, something I have wanted for a while. I was pretty excited when I found a Craftsman drill press in a town very close by for $40! I decided that I would make it happen so I called the guy on the way back from school and went to try it out. It worked well and I brought it home. Decided to make a Home Depot stop for some hardboard for bases and the game table. I bought two 8ft x 4ft 1/8inch think sheets. Here is the drill press with a chunk of hardboard. We are cutting out bases for things here. The standard GW flight stand is 30mm and 60m for the larger ones. We are cutting a bunch of each. I ended up cutting this entire sheet worth of bases. It made 50-60 30mm and 12 60mm bases.

Here's an action shot. I have been reminded by a few family members because my dad lost his right pointer finger to one of these many years back.

This is a 30mm finished base. Notice the rough crap around the edges. Most of it is at the bottom but the sides are relatively smooth.

This is how we deal with the extra crap. After we get rid of it, we give it a quick sandpapering and it looks pretty good.

A stack of bases, 30mm and 60mm with a Space Marine Nova lurking behind. Notice that some of the bases on top are nicely sanded and ready to go while others near the bottom need some work. The majority of these bases will be used for the Ground Zero Games - Full Thrust ships we are getting which come with hex bases.

We are planning an internet battle which will take a few weeks to complete. In the in between days, we will feel compelled to get this table done so we can set up more games (for more battle reports) on the side.
